Are there any risks with cosmetic tattoo procedures or are there any important considerations?

Cosmetic Tattoos may not always yield the desired or satisfactory results for customers. When the skin is oily, the epidermis is thick, there is excessive bleeding during the procedure, and/or the skin is aged, the procedure may not produce satisfactory results. In addition, Cosmetic Tattoo can be problematic for people who are diabetic or suffer from medical conditions that their skin cannot be healed.

Furthermore, the outcome of Cosmetic Tattoo depends on the skill and technique of the artist performing the procedure as well as the materials and tools that the artist has used during the procedure. Additionally, the post-care routine that client performs after the procedure is very crucial for achieving optimal results. It is important to follow the proper aftercare instructions for a successful healing.

Prerequisites and before-care Procedures

There are certain tasks that need to be performed before undergoing a cosmetic tattoo procedure to avoid excessive bleeding during the process and complicating the skin healing. For example, if you are going to undertake a microblading procedure, you need to make sure you avoid taking the following at least 24 hours before the procedure.

  • Caffeine (Coffee, Tea, or any soft drink)
  • Energy Drinks
  • Pre-workout
  • Alcohol

In addition, you need to avoid taking or doing the followings at least 2 weeks before the procedure:

  • Fish Oil
  • Aspirin
  • Blood thinners
  • Strong Antibiotics
  • Medicated skin creams
  • Waxing of the area
  • Botox
  • Injectables/ Fillers

Furthermore, make sure you avoid the followings at least 4 weeks before the procedure:

  • Chemical peels
  • Laser therapy
  • Facial surgery

Finally, avoid the followings at least 3 months before the microblading procedure:

  • Ro-Accutane/ Isotretinoin
  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiotherapy
  • Laser tattoo removal in the same area

After-care procedure

Following the post-treatment determines the success of your treatment.

First 24-hours

  • Ensure the success of your treatment by following the post-treatment guidelines carefully.
  • To cleanse the tattooed area and remove excess lymph, gently use a cleansing wipe.
  • Refrain from touching the tattooed area with your fingers unless they have been thoroughly cleansed.
  • Avoid any contact with pets to prevent potential contamination.

First 7 Days

  • Maintain cleanliness and dryness of the tattooed area throughout the first week.
  • Starting from day 2, apply aftercare ointment gently using a cotton tip 1-2 times daily.
  • Prior to applying aftercare, cleanse the tattooed area with a cleansing wipe.
  • It is permissible to apply makeup from day 2 onwards, but avoid using brushes and sponges to prevent bacterial contamination.
  • Do not expose the tattooed area to water, as it can cause the pigment to wash away.
  • Refrain from activities that induce sweating, as it can dilute the pigment and increase the risk of infection.
  • Avoid picking at scabs or flaking, as this can remove sections of the pigment.
  • Strictly avoid using creams, oils, or balms, as they may disrupt the healing process and alter the pigment tone.

Long Term

  • Sustain the vibrancy and longevity of the pigment by incorporating SPF protection into your routine.
  • Maintain hydration of the tattooed area to enhance its shine.
  • Coconut oil and Aloe Vera can be beneficial in nourishing and enhancing the tattoo.
  • Refrain from undergoing procedures such as chemical peels, Microdermabrasion, or Laser treatments on the tattooed areas.
  • Avoid skincare products containing vitamins, rejuvenation factors, bleach, or acids (including fruit acids) on the tattooed area.

Touch-Up Session

Many clients are happy with the results after the first session and think they do not need to touch up, which is wrong. During the second touch-up session, We will focus on analyzing healed results and pay attention to details.

The second secession concentrates on perfecting the work, filling missing parts, and adding more color, this will prolong results and insure great final results. Touch-up concentrates on improving color, density, and shape. During the perfection procedure, we compare both eyebrows, if the brow is different or more intense we focus on the brow that needs to be corrected more. Many times it is due to the sleeping habits of the client, some people sleep on one side and it results in pigment loss.
